Odesa Ports: The Backbone of Ukraine's Agricultural Exports

The Odesa region has emerged as a pivotal player in Ukraine's agricultural exports. In January 2026, a significant portion of the export of grains, oilseeds, and their processed products was conducted through the ports of this region. These ports are crucial for supplying goods to international markets.
According to analysts, the maritime route remains the primary channel for distributing Ukrainian agricultural products.
"Exports through the ports of the Odesa region continue to be the main avenue for grains and oilseeds. In January 2026, 3.7 million tons were exported via this channel, accounting for 89% of the volume in these categories," stated the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business.
Rail transport ranked second in transport volumes, delivering approximately 0.32 million tons of agricultural products, representing 8% of total exports. Other transport methods remained minimal in volume.
Analysts remind us that before the onset of full-scale warfare, the share of exports through the Black Sea ports of Odesa reached 94%, but in the early years of conflict, this figure significantly dropped due to port blockades and shipping restrictions. By 2024, maritime exports began to recover more robustly following the restoration of port infrastructure under the protection of Ukrainian military forces.
At the same time, experts indicate that the operation of the maritime corridor remains challenging, as ongoing shelling and energy risks continue to affect the stability of export operations.
