New Number Renewal Policy from Kyivstar
The mobile operator "Kyivstar" will introduce new rules for renewing the validity of numbers for its subscribers starting February 6, 2026.
According to the operator's announcement, these changes will help retain numbers for active users and simplify the conditions of mobile communication services.
The updated rules involve a new mechanism for retaining an active number, particularly the introduction of an interim suspended state.
The overall validity period remains 365 days, but now it is divided into two stages:
- for the first 274 days from the last top-up or payment, the number will be in an active state, and subscribers can use all services;
- the next stage — a suspended state for another 91 days; during this time, subscribers will receive SMS reminders to top up their accounts to avoid deactivation; while in the suspended state, subscribers can top up their accounts and call service numbers; to restore full number functionality, a top-up of at least 30 UAH is required.
To extend the validity of their numbers, subscribers can choose from several options. The simplest method is to top up the account with a minimum of 30 UAH in one payment. Another option is to pay for the main service package for four weeks or a month, as well as a daily service package. For users on annual or semi-annual plans, the validity is automatically extended with each service package renewal.
It is reported that certain financial transactions do not affect the renewal of the number's validity. Services like "Extra Money" and transferring funds to other subscribers do not count as actions to maintain the number's activity.
To check their current number validity, subscribers can use the USSD request *114# or view the relevant information in the "Profile" section of the "My Kyivstar" mobile app. These tools provide quick access to current information about the number's status and help avoid deactivation.
As previously mentioned, the independent French company nPerf recently studied the home internet offerings from Vodafone and "Kyivstar" in 2025, determining that Vodafone provides better services for Ukrainians. According to the study, Vodafone offers a higher average download speed of 200.48 Mbps compared to 109.04 Mbps for "Kyivstar". The upload speed is also higher — 196.4 Mbps against 127.8 Mbps.
