Border Issues in Odesa Region Due to Bridge Damage
In the Odesa region, the border crossings on the Odesa-Reni route are operational, but traffic towards Odesa and the border with Moldova is complicated due to bridge damage near the village of Mayaki.
This was reported by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko, during a broadcast.
«The border crossings are operational and can process citizens. However, the movement towards Odesa is restricted due to the bridge damage in the Mayaki area,» Demchenko stated.
He mentioned that this concerns the border crossings «Palanka,» «Starokozache,» «Reni,» and «Orlivka,» which can handle the processing of citizens and vehicles.
The Border Guard representative explained that due to enemy actions, travel deeper into Ukraine is complicated for those entering from Moldova.
«We are conducting informational work and have involved our Moldovan colleagues to clarify to people that due to enemy actions and the bridge damage in the Mayaki area, it is difficult to travel further into the territory of Ukraine, hence it is recommended to choose alternative routes,» he added.
Demchenko clarified that traffic towards the border is also restricted due to the bridge damage, and law enforcement agencies are conducting explanatory work among citizens.
«By evening, there were queues on both sides of the road near the bridge, but by morning, people understand the complexity of the situation, and there is no accumulation of vehicles near this location,» noted the Border Guard spokesperson.
Earlier, the Infrastructure Recovery and Development Service in the Odesa region announced on Facebook that traffic was temporarily closed in the Mayaki area on the Odesa-Reni road on the morning of December 19.
«The temporary closure of traffic on the M-15 Odesa - Reni road (towards Bucharest), in the territory of Mayaki village. We ask drivers to refrain from traveling in this direction if possible,» the agency stated.
In the Odesa region, due to an airstrike by the Russian Federation, traffic to certain border crossings on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border has been restricted.
