Winter Measures for Road Safety in Odesa
To enhance road safety and respond effectively to winter weather conditions, the municipal enterprise 'City Roads' in Odesa is implementing a series of measures.
Traditionally, by early December, the municipal workers finish street cleaning and reconfigure their equipment. They remove tanks from washing trucks and replace them with salt-sand spreaders.
Winter equipment is being installed, and most of the vehicles are fitted with snow plows. Additionally, all machinery undergoes inspection and preventive maintenance. After preparation, the specialized equipment's operation will be tested on the enterprise's premises.
The 'City Roads' enterprise has at its disposal: snow removal vehicles, sand spreaders, graders, excavators, 'Globus' snow plows, loaders, combined road machines, and other equipment. Overall, in the 2025-2026 autumn-winter season, 104 units of equipment and 560 workers will be involved in snow removal and combating ice.
As of December 4, the equipment has already been reconfigured and is ready for use in winter conditions.
The enterprise is also preparing a sand-salt mixture for anti-icing. In case of worsening weather conditions, the enterprise is stocked with 10,363 tons of reagents to be used for road treatment.
'City Roads' has developed 17 routes for snow removal vehicles to ensure prompt clearing of roads from snow drifts and ice removal. Additionally, 54 routes are designated for spreading reagents on streets to reduce road hazards during icy conditions.
Starting December 1, 2025, the round-the-clock duty of 'City Roads' teams has traditionally begun to ensure rapid response in case of worsening weather. Duty rooms are ready, and staff operating the equipment are provided with winter clothing.
