Beware: Fraudulent Emails Posing as Tax Authority
Fraudulent emails are increasingly appearing in Ukraine, allegedly sent by the State Tax Service. This was reported by acting head Lesya Karnaukh on the official website of the STS.
“The emails contain information about a supposed “financial audit” regarding specific organizations. I emphasize that the STS is not associated with this distribution, so I urge everyone to be cautious,” she stated.
The emails may contain malicious software. Opening the attached files can lead to computer infection, creating risks of unauthorized access to personal data. There is a significant possibility of computers being infected by viruses.
It is also important to note that these messages come from addresses that have no connection to the STS.
The agency recommends: do not open attachments from suspicious emails and adhere to basic personal cyber hygiene rules.
On May 28, 2025, the State Tax Service of Ukraine reported a mass distribution of fake emails allegedly sent in its name. The attachments contained malicious software that activates upon opening a PDF file, giving attackers remote access to the computer.
