YouTube Outage: Global Disruption on October 16th
In the early hours of October 16th, hundreds of thousands of users around the globe experienced difficulties accessing the video streaming platform YouTube and its services. The YouTube team made an announcement regarding the situation.
The company confirmed that they were aware of issues affecting video playback on YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV.
Shortly after, they reported that the issue had been resolved and users could resume video viewing, though they did not clarify the cause of the disruptions.
According to NetBlocks, a service monitoring internet access and various platforms, this incident was not connected to internet outages or country-level filtering.
Data from the monitoring platform Downdetector indicated that the highest number of complaints came in at 2:36 AM on October 16th, with over 330,000 users reporting issues with YouTube. Complaints were registered from Ukraine, the USA, the UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, and several other countries.
