Tram Upgrades in Odesa: Enhancing Accessibility
The city of Odesa is launching a modernization initiative for its 'Tatra' trams, incorporating state-of-the-art lifts into the vehicles.
The first tram equipped with a lift is already operating on route No. 15. By the end of the year, two more trams will undergo modernization, receiving lifting mechanisms developed by the experts at KP 'OMET', with the technology currently in the patent process.
Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov mentioned that participation in the InnTrans exhibition in Berlin aided in discovering solutions for public transport issues that have persisted in post-Soviet countries.
'Tatra' trams are considered among the best modifications of Czech transport and continue to be in service, including in Prague. The inclusive designs by Odesa engineers allow these vehicles to meet modern standards for comfortable transportation of individuals with disabilities.
Before the modernization commenced, extensive discussions were held with key users of the lifting mechanism, including veterans and representatives of mobility-impaired groups, to address their needs.
Participants in the meeting assessed the new mechanism as convenient and reliable. Series installation of lifts on the upgraded trams will begin at KP 'OMET'.
