Rescue Day: Honoring the Heroes

17 September 2025

In Ukraine, September 17 is celebrated as Rescue Day.

This occasion honors not only the employees of all emergency services but also those who contributed to alleviating the consequences of emergencies, protecting the lives and health of citizens.

Rescue Day was established on September 12, 2008, by a decree from the President of Ukraine.

The head of the Emergency Service, Andriy Danyk, congratulated his colleagues and veterans on this professional holiday.

According to Danyk, firefighters, sapper units, divers, medics, dog handlers, psychologists, chemists, engineers, drivers, and aviation rescue teams are part of the large family of the Emergency Service, ensuring thousands of lives are saved daily.

“Each of you shows courage, resilience, and high professionalism in extremely challenging conditions. Unfortunately, today the enemy cynically targets Emergency Service units that save lives after massive shelling,” noted the head of the service.

“We face losses: destroyed equipment, injured and fallen comrades — this is our painful reality. The memory of those who gave their lives to save others will forever remain in our hearts,” he added.

Danyk expressed gratitude to the rescuers for their self-sacrifice, bravery, and dedication to the cause, believing that good and truth will ultimately prevail.
