Revolutionizing Blood Donation: The eBlood System
The Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Lyashko, held a working meeting to discuss the implementation of the electronic blood donation tracking system - «eBlood».
Representatives from the Ministry of Health, the National Health Service of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Transplant Coordination Center, and the state enterprise «Electronic Health» participated in the meeting. They discussed the stages of service implementation, key functionalities, and future development plans.
“The advancement of digital infrastructure in the field of blood donation is a significant step towards the digitalization of the healthcare system. With the «eBlood» system, we will be able to manage blood supplies more effectively, reduce risks associated with shortages, and enhance patient safety. This service will make the donation process transparent and understandable for everyone: it will allow quick and reliable access to data about available blood supplies, blood types, and Rh factors, which is critical for timely life-saving interventions. This tool optimizes the workflow of medical professionals and increases donors' and the public's trust in the entire system. We are creating a unified digital space in blood donation - from registration to quality control and transparent accounting. This means that every donation will be accounted for and utilized where it is most needed, and the state will have the opportunity to effectively plan policies in this area. Such tools make Ukrainian medicine modern and focused on people's needs.”

Among the main features of the system is the comprehensive recording of the donation process: from the date and location of blood donation to the results of medical examinations and reasons for any unsuccessful donations.
The system will also contain data on available blood supplies at various facilities, including blood types and Rh factors. All this information will be centralized and available in digital format, allowing healthcare institutions to manage blood donation stocks efficiently according to actual needs.
Currently, the system already has functioning modules for administrative management, logistics, and registration (which handle donation records, blood component movements, user registrations, and basic organization of blood centers). Over 650 medical facilities are already connected to the platform.
Future plans include integrating the eBlood system with the electronic healthcare system, ensuring a unified digital space for blood donation. Within this integration, functionality has already been implemented for entering donor medical examination results.
Additionally, a register of donor visits and a register of licenses for blood collection and testing, which has been operational since June 1, 2025, have been established as part of the system's implementation.
Currently, the functionality is being expanded in phases. In particular, the launch of blood sample tracking and functions for quality control, laboratory research, inventory management, and donor incentive programs are planned for the near future.
