Monitoring the Environmental State of the Black Sea

22 August 2025

Ecologists continue to monitor the condition of the Black Sea near Mayachny Lane in Odessa. At the beginning of 2025, numerous complaints were received from residents of the 16th station of the Great Fountain regarding potential sewage discharge into the sea.

This was reported by the press service of the State Ecological Inspection of the Southwestern District.

In response, a series of measures were initiated: commission inspections involving applicants, local authorities, and public representatives, a review of the coastal area, and the collection of seawater samples near the piers. Preliminary analyses showed no exceedances of the permissible concentration limits (PCL). However, for an extended period, it was impossible to collect samples directly in the water area due to a lack of technical support. With the assistance of the Municipal Institution 'Rescue and Diving Service of the Odessa City Council,' inspectors went out to sea and collected new samples approximately 100 meters from the shore, near the deep-water discharge of stormwater collectors. Additional results of laboratory research will be published after the analysis is completed.
