New Passenger Coaches for Ukrzaliznytsia: Innovation and Comfort
The contracting procedures for the production of 100 new passenger coaches for "Ukrzaliznytsia" have been completed.
This was reported by the press service of "Ukrzaliznytsia".
"The company has signed an agreement with the domestic manufacturer PJSC "Kryukov Car Building Works" to purchase new models of passenger coaches equipped with innovative technical solutions. This year, under the appropriate budget program, 100 new coaches have been ordered," the release states.
The latest contracted batch of coaches will have a lifespan 20 years longer, extended intervals between repairs, and will require less servicing personnel, according to UZ.
Within the total order of 100 coaches, a pilot batch of 5 next-generation coaches will feature modern management systems, an operational lifespan increased by nearly 80%, and the capacity to accommodate more passengers—up to 44 in a compartment coach (+10% over standard coaches).
The new coaches will have an increased body width and improved layouts, with longer sleeping areas up to 2.2 meters. Pneumatic suspension, which will be implemented for the first time in Ukrainian sleeping coaches, will ensure additional smoothness and reduce swaying during travel. Automatic sliding doors and hermetic inter-car transitions at floor level will enhance passenger comfort.
These coaches will transition from coal heating to fully electric heating with improved individual temperature control in each compartment. The modern system will allow climate control to be used even during long stops and at low speeds.
The expected lifespan of these coaches is 50 years, thanks to the use of stainless steel for their bodies. This is 20 years longer than for standard coaches of Ukrzaliznytsia.
Among the 100 coaches, 5 new compartment coaches will be convertible into SV-type coaches. One coach will be inclusive, featuring an electric lift, ramp for high platforms, and enlarged compartments for travelers with disabilities in wheelchairs.
"The cost of purchasing one passenger coach is approximately 95 million hryvnias. The cost of the coach with compartments for transporting passengers with disabilities is 98.3 million hryvnias. However, considering the significantly (by 80%) longer useful life and greater intervals between repairs, the procurement of next-generation coaches is more economical and efficient than the purchase of standard coaches," the message states.
The delivery period for the coaches is 2.5 years from the moment the manufacturer receives the advance payment for their production (this includes the necessary certification procedures for the new generation coaches). With additional funding from the State Budget, Ukrzaliznytsia will be able to continue expanding its rolling stock renewal program, particularly increasing the share of next-generation coaches.
