Homeless Man Arrested for Car Arson

In Odessa, police have arrested a 50-year-old homeless man for setting a car on fire. The motive behind the crime was resentment towards the car's owner. The suspect has been charged and a restraining order has been placed. He could face up to 10 years of imprisonment.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

Recently, emergency services contacted the police regarding a Volkswagen car fire on one of the streets in the Peresyp district. Officers quickly established that the fire was set by a 50-year-old homeless man.

Investigators collected several pieces of evidence and sent them for examination. They also found out that the suspect committed the crime out of revenge against the 30-year-old car owner for not allowing him to enter the building where his friend lives.

"We detained the suspect and informed him of the charges for intentional damage to someone else's property by arson. According to Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by up to ten years in prison. The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail set at 121,120 UAH. The extent of the damage to the victim is being established. The investigation continues under the supervision of the Suvorov District Prosecutor's Office in Odessa," said Natalia Mrochko, deputy head of the investigative department of the police department No. 3 of the Odessa District Police Department No. 1.
