Teenagers Arrested for Car Arson
Two young women were apprehended after igniting one civilian vehicle and planning to set fire to another. They face serious charges.
This was reported by the police.
During curfew hours, when there is currently no legal liability, the perpetrators set fire to a «Kia» belonging to a local woman parked outside her home. Firefighters extinguished the flames and informed the police.
With analytical support from the criminal analysis department of the National Police of Ukraine in Odessa region, the detectives of the regional police, along with operatives and investigators from Police Division No. 1 of Odessa District Police, established that two girls aged 17 and 18 were involved in the arson.
The underage girl was recruited through a messaging channel for monetary reward to commit arson on military and police vehicles. She was also allowed to set any car on fire, as long as a white cross was previously placed on it. Agreeing to this, the teenager involved her 18-year-old friend.
The girls found a suitable vehicle that met their curator's requirements, marked it with a cross, doused it with flammable liquid, and set it ablaze. The entire process was filmed on a phone for proof of their work.
Later, they planned to burn another civilian vehicle, a «Renault», parked near the owner's residence.
The police detained the perpetrators just before they were about to commit the crime. They seized flammable materials, a lighter, tape, and other items prepared for the arson, along with mobile phones containing correspondence with the client and other evidentiary materials.
The investigators detained the girls in accordance with legal procedures and, based on the evidence collected, charged them with intentional destruction of property and attempted intentional destruction of property through arson, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy. According to Article 194 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, they face up to 10 years in prison.
The court has imposed a preventive measure in the form of round-the-clock house arrest. Investigative actions continue under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office of Odessa.
