New Guidelines for Transporting Pets on Buses in Ukraine
08 July 2025
For the first time in Ukraine, standardized regulations for transporting pets on intercity and international buses have been established.
This initiative is a collaboration between the Government and UAnimals, responding to numerous requests from travelers and pet owners.
How to transport pets?
- Small animals (up to 10 kg) – cats, dogs, birds, or rodents – must travel in containers or bags with absorbent bases. They can be held in hands, under the seat, or in a separate area (for this, an additional seat must be purchased).
- Medium and large dogs (10–45 kg) must be on a leash, wearing a muzzle, and on a mat on the floor. Adjacent seats need to be purchased. Animals are not allowed to sit in chairs.
- Dogs over 45 kg must be transported according to the individual rules of the carrier, in specially equipped vehicles.
- Guide dogs always travel for free, without needing to purchase seats, alongside the person they assist. They should be muzzled and on a short leash.
In all cases, it is mandatory to have a veterinary document.
