Forest Restoration: New Nurseries Established in Odesa and Mykolaiv Regions

New nurseries have been created in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions to support the restoration of forests in the liberated areas of Kherson. The total area of these nurseries is 45 hectares, with individual plots ranging from 0.3 to 3 hectares established in almost every forestry unit.

According to the Southern Forestry Office of the State Enterprise «Forests of Ukraine», these areas were barren just a year ago, and now seedlings are being cultivated to be planted in spring 2025 and autumn 2024.

“A year ago, only weeds grew here. Thanks to the company’s investments, the nurseries have been revitalized with equipment for soil processing, irrigation, and shading nets to protect seedlings from the scorching southern sun. Personnel have also been formed,” the office reported.

In spring 2026, it is planned to obtain 25 million seedlings. This volume will allow reforestation of 4-5 thousand hectares.

A significant portion of the planting material will be directed towards restoring forests in the liberated territories that will join the State Enterprise «Forests of Ukraine» this year.
