New Bridge Over the Danube to Connect Ukraine and Romania
A new bridge crossing over the Danube River is set to be constructed in the southern part of the Odesa region.
This is reported by CTS.
The bridge will be located in the village of Orlivka in the Izmail district and will connect Ukraine to the Romanian city of Isaccea.
The project is included in the region's recovery and development strategy for 2025-2027, published on the Odesa Regional Council's website.
This bridge will become part of the international route E87, linking Ukraine with Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
Currently, drivers have to take a long detour through Moldova, crossing the border twice. The new bridge will shorten the journey to Isaccea by approximately 80 kilometers.
The construction of the Orlivka-Isaccea bridge will be an element of a major southern transport corridor, connecting Ukraine with the European Union via Romania.
Funding for the construction is planned through international assistance - over 12.6 billion hryvnias over three years. In 2025, 1.26 billion will be allocated, nearly 3.8 billion in 2026, and over 7.5 billion in 2027.
Ahead are design work, environmental studies, the actual construction of the bridge, access roads, and the establishment of border crossing points and connections to international routes.
The future bridge will have four lanes, sidewalks for pedestrians on both sides, and will be earthquake-resistant up to 9 points.
On the Ukrainian side, a 3 km access road will be constructed, while on the Romanian side it will be 950 meters long.
