Celebrating Embroidery and Family Values in Ukraine

On Thursday, May 15, President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal extended their greetings to the Ukrainian people on the occasion of Embroidery Day and Family Day.

Both leaders emphasized the cultural significance of the embroidery as well as the importance of family values and national unity during these challenging times.

Zelensky's Greetings for Embroidery Day and Family Day

“Today we talk about our roots and family, as these themes unite us on this day. Each pattern of Ukrainian embroidery carries the history and strength of our people. It is a connection passed down through generations that we must cherish,” Zelensky stated.

The head of state also stressed the importance of preserving national heritage: “We must ensure that our Ukrainian culture is safeguarded for future generations.”

“Happy Embroidery Day and Family Day, Ukraine!” the President added.

Shmyhal on the Significance of Embroidery

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that by wearing embroidery, Ukrainians express to the world that Ukraine is alive and carries its culture.

“Embroidery is a symbol of resilience for the Ukrainian people. It identifies us as part of a nation that seeks freedom. By wearing embroidery, we preserve traditions and show that Ukraine lives in our hearts and continues its cultural legacy,” he emphasized.

Denys Shmyhal also reminded that Embroidery Day is celebrated every year on the third Thursday of May.
