Revolutionizing Healthy Living in Odessa

05 March 2025

A new initiative named ‘Healthy Body for Everyone’ has been launched in Odessa.

The primary goal of this initiative is to reduce obesity rates among the population and improve the health and quality of life for citizens of Odessa.

“Weight management is a crucial aspect of health, and its importance cannot be overstated. Many Ukrainians struggle with weight issues. Healthy eating and an active lifestyle are keys to longevity,” emphasized project leader Oleg Kovalenko.

The initiative plans to educate over 300 family doctors and pediatricians, along with nurses, on obesity management.

Leading specialists from medical institutions and health associations will be involved in the training.

The training will cover significant topics: how to counsel patients effectively, form healthy eating habits, and monitor physical activity.

The first sessions will begin on March 4, 2025, at the medical center. The program will involve 15 doctors and 15 nurses who will receive specialized training on obesity.

“Obesity is not just an aesthetic issue; it is a serious disease. It can lead to numerous complications, such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases,” noted medical expert Inna Sergeeva.

Doctors recommend a few simple tips to maintain health:

1. Drink plain water and avoid sugary drinks between meals.

2. Aim to consume at least 500 grams of fruits and vegetables daily.

3. Dedicate time each day for physical exercise—this can be walking, stretching, etc.
