Enhancing Accessibility of Healthcare Services for People with Disabilities in Odesa

09 October 2024

The Odesa Department of Health is diligently working to ensure accessibility of healthcare services for individuals with disabilities.

This involves the installation of ramps, elevators, adapting restrooms, accessible navigation, and enabling independent movement for wheelchair users within medical facilities.

Healthcare establishments are implementing initiatives to create a barrier-free environment for patients, including designated parking spaces, tactile paving, ramped entrances, ensuring elevator functionality, restroom adaptations for individuals with disabilities, and providing informational navigation using Braille.

Additional examination rooms for patients, including those with special needs, have been established on the ground floors of medical facilities.

The principle of barrier-free access is being implemented across all outpatient and inpatient medical establishments. Renovations have been conducted to enhance the entrance areas at Primary Medical and Sanitary Assistance Center No. 2, as well as at diagnostic consulting centers No. 20 and No. 29.

At municipal clinical hospitals No. 1, No. 10, No. 11, and the Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 3, work is ongoing to create inclusive wards that meet modern accessibility standards for patients with various disabilities, including severe cases requiring constant assistance.

This includes equipping wards with functional beds, patient monitoring systems, and using ceiling or mobile lifts.

Thanks to the support of charitable foundations, healthcare institutions in the city have received inclusive equipment, such as gynecological chairs with lifts and more.
