Innovations in Minimally Invasive Surgery in Odessa
The City Clinical Hospital No. 1, also known as the Jewish Hospital, has introduced a new department specializing in minimally invasive and high-tech surgery. Located in a renovated building funded by the city budget, this department features state-of-the-art equipment operated by skilled surgeons utilizing contemporary European protocols.
Every week, the staff performs over 40 surgical procedures, with 80% being minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy and thoracoscopy. The department conducts endoscopic surgeries on vital abdominal organs, including the liver, kidneys, and lungs. Additionally, minor surgical interventions are performed through percutaneous punctures guided by ultrasound.
Last year, the department completed more than 5400 surgeries and over 1500 endoscopic examinations, including: 873 trauma surgeries, 847 gynecological surgeries, 441 urological surgeries, 511 ENT surgeries, and 311 thoracic surgeries.
Advantages of minimally invasive surgery include:
- reduced trauma: smaller incisions lead to less bleeding and pain;
- faster recovery: patients typically return to their normal lives much quicker than after traditional surgeries;
- better cosmetic results: smaller scars and a lower risk of complications.
