Successful Organ Transplantation at Odesa Hospital

25 September 2025

In a historic moment for the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital, the first multi-organ donation and transplantation took place. This was announced by the head of the OVA, Oleg Kiper.
The complex operation saved the lives of three critically ill individuals who had been waiting for this chance for years.
The donor was a patient suffering from a severe ischemic stroke. After the medical board confirmed brain death, the family made the brave and noble decision to consent to the transplantation.

This led to three individuals receiving a new lease on life:

  • A 49-year-old former military serviceman — kidney;
  • A 31-year-old internally displaced person from Kherson region — kidney;
  • A 24-year-old patient — heart.

The incredible work was done by the medical team of the transplantation and dialysis department of the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital, along with colleagues from the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the National Scientific Center named after O.O. Shalimov. Sincere thanks to everyone involved in this noble mission.
