Odessa's HIV Testing Week: Results and Achievements

04 December 2024

From November 25 to 29, 2024, Odessa participated in the European HIV Testing Week as part of the initiative 'HIV in Europe'.

With the support of the Health Department and various organizations, free HIV testing was made available at medical facilities for everyone.

Rapid tests used during the event provided results within just 15 minutes. The purchase of these tests was funded through the city budget under the 'Health' program.

A total of 1,192 individuals were tested, with 8 receiving a positive result.

These patients were referred to the City AIDS Center for confirmation of diagnosis and further medical care.

Modern medications provided free of charge help minimize viral load to undetectable levels.

In Odessa, 96% of patients receiving antiretroviral therapy show undetectable viral levels, preventing the progression of the disease.

These achievements highlight the successful implementation of the global Fast Track Cities initiative, which Odessa joined by signing the Paris Declaration.

The city's efforts in combating HIV have gained international recognition.
