Meta Unveils New Language Models: Llama 4

On Saturday, Meta Platforms introduced the latest iteration of its language model, known as Llama 4, featuring Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick.

According to Meta, Llama is a multimodal artificial intelligence system.

Multimodal systems can process and integrate various data types, including text, video, images, and audio, enabling content conversion across these formats.

Meta also announced that Llama 4 Maverick and Llama 4 Scout will be released with open-source software.

Additionally, the company previewed Llama 4 Behemoth, claiming it to be “one of the smartest LLMs in the world and our most powerful model, which will serve as a teacher for our new models.”

Major tech companies are heavily investing in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure following the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has transformed the tech landscape and spurred investments in machine learning.

On Friday, The Information reported that Meta delayed the launch of the latest LLM version because the technical tests for Llama 4 did not meet its expectations, particularly in reasoning and mathematical tasks.

The company was also concerned that Llama 4 was less capable than OpenAI’s models in conducting human-like voice conversations, according to the report.
