Discord Implements Age Verification for Users Worldwide

10 February 2026

Discord is rolling out an age verification system for all users globally, ensuring complete access to the platform's services. All accounts will now be considered teenage by default, with updated communication settings, age restrictions, and content filtering.

The age verification process will gradually begin for new and existing users starting March 2026. Users wishing to access sensitive content, such as channels or servers with age restrictions, will need to verify their age using facial recognition technology or by submitting identification documents.

Discord emphasizes that video processing will occur solely on user devices, and all identification documents will be swiftly deleted after verification.

In most cases, verification will only be required once, although in some instances, multiple methods may be needed to provide additional information for age determination. The company also notes that the user's age verification status will not be visible to others.

Additionally, Discord has announced the formation of its first "Teen Council", which will consist of 10-12 teens who will assist the company in better understanding the needs of its young audience on the platform.
