New Way to Check Energy-Independent Internet in Ukraine
Ukrainians will have the opportunity to check for the presence of energy-independent xPON networks in their area using the "Diya" mobile application.
According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the new map will allow users to see the real situation regarding internet access and plan their activities during power outages.
Users will be able to easily obtain the following information:
- xPON providers servicing specific addresses;
- presence of xPON technology ensuring connectivity even without power;
- duration of network operation during outages (4, 8, or 72 hours).
"Users will be able to leave feedback on the providers' services. This will encourage companies to improve their offerings, and consumers will be aware of whether their promises hold true," the ministry stated.
It was also highlighted that the map will display the coverage of energy-independent internet throughout the country. "We will be able to identify 'white spots' and work with providers to eliminate them. This is especially important for communities in high-risk areas," the Ministry added.
The ministry noted that demand for xPON has increased in various regions from 45% to 77% since the onset of new outages in the fall of 2025. Currently, 52% of subscribers use this technology, compared to only 30% in 2021. The leaders in coverage are Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Volyn regions.
Recall that xPON (Passive Optical Network) is a technology that allows users to stay online without electricity for up to 72 hours. The optical cable connects directly to the apartment, and there is no equipment requiring power along the path from the provider. The main condition is that to keep the internet running, you only need to power your router and ONU terminal.
