5G in Ukraine: Prospects for Coverage by 2030
According to forecasts, 5G technology could cover parts of Ukraine by 2030. This was confirmed by Stanislav Prybytko, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation, in an interview with Forbes. While the full rollout of the technology has been postponed until the end of martial law, testing is scheduled in cities like Lviv, Kharkiv, and Borodyanka.
Prybytko notes that nearly 22% of all smartphones in Ukraine are compatible with 5G, which equates to about 9.4 million devices. He added that the introduction of 5G was originally planned for 2022, but due to the invasion, those plans have been adjusted.
Regarding the cities chosen for testing, Prybytko mentioned that Kharkiv was a presidential initiative, while Borodyanka symbolizes Ukraine's reconstruction after significant destruction.
"Kharkiv is the president's idea. Testing in Kharkiv proves that despite constant shelling, the city is developing. Borodyanka is a symbol of Ukraine's recovery after severe post-war devastation. Technologies for a 'Smart City' and construction are being integrated there, and new mobile technology is essential," said Prybytko.
