YouTube Introduces New Restrictions for Teen Users

Starting August 13, 2025, YouTube will implement an advanced AI model designed to automatically identify user accounts of individuals under 18 years old. Account age and user activity will be considered, leading to appropriate restrictions for minors.

These restrictions will include blocking age-restricted videos, displaying only non-personalized ads, reminders to take breaks, and limiting repeated recommendations on sensitive topics, such as body image. Additionally, minors will automatically receive privacy reminders when commenting or uploading videos.

YouTube will notify users if they are classified as teenagers. In the case of an error, users can verify their age using a document, selfie, or bank card.

This initiative is part of a broader campaign by Google aimed at enhancing child safety online. Similar measures have already been implemented in the UK and are being considered in various states in the USA and the EU.

YouTube warns that some creators may earn less revenue as recommendations will not target child accounts. Initially, the new system will be tested with a small group of users in the USA before being launched in other countries.
