End of Support for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10

Microsoft has quietly announced that starting August 2026, no new features will be added to Microsoft 365 (Office) for Windows 10 users. While security updates will remain available until October 2028, functional updates will begin to phase out next year, according to The Verge.

For Microsoft 365 Personal and Family users, new Office features on Windows 10 will cease in August 2026, coinciding with the end of support for business users utilizing the Current Channel. Following this, on October 13, 2026, new features will no longer be available to Monthly Enterprise Channel users, and on January 12, 2027, they will also cease for Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel users.

Earlier this year, Microsoft had already scrapped plans for a complete halt to security updates for Office on Windows 10, agreeing to continue them until 2028. However, at that time, the company did not mention that starting in 2026, new Office features would only be available on Windows 11.

This move signals another step towards the end of support for Windows 10, which officially concludes on October 14, 2025. After this date, Office updates will only be available in the form of security patches, without new functional capabilities.

While Microsoft is actively encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 11, millions of devices worldwide still run on Windows 10. Even though Windows 11 recently surpassed Windows 10 in usage share for the first time, the transition remains slow. For home users, Microsoft has offered a free option to continue receiving security updates for an additional year if they activate the Windows Backup feature.
