New Options for Windows 10 Users
As the end of support for Windows 10 approaches, Microsoft is striving to please users who are reluctant to upgrade by offering various incentives. Currently, the company is implementing the option to purchase security updates, known as Extended Security Updates (ESU), using 1000 Microsoft Rewards points.
Support for Windows 10 will cease on October 14, 2025, yet this operating system version remains the most popular among all Microsoft OS, accounting for 53.19%, according to StatCounter. Meanwhile, the latest version, Windows 11, holds 43.22%. Thus, more than half of users can take advantage of this opportunity for free.
For 1000 Microsoft Rewards points, users can gain access to additional security updates, fixes for critical vulnerabilities, and other issues for another year, until October 13, 2026.
If you don't have 1000 Microsoft points, earning them is not very difficult. You can do this by using Bing search, especially through the Microsoft Edge browser, shopping at the Microsoft Store, playing games via the Xbox app, and generally interacting actively with the company’s services.
Alternatively, users can purchase a year of ESU updates for $30. After the end of support for Windows 10, users will be given the option to choose one of the available options, after which their PC will be automatically registered for ESU.
Organizations can also obtain ESU for $61 per device to receive critical and important updates monthly for one year. The subscription can be renewed annually for up to three years, but the cost will increase each time.
