03 March 2025

On March 1, 2025, the Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art launched a new art exhibition titled «Gennady Harmider: Timeless Artist».

Gennady Harmider, a prominent Ukrainian artist, is celebrated for his significant contributions to both painting and graphic arts, leaving behind a rich artistic legacy. His work encompasses various genres, notably urban landscapes and still lifes.

«Harmider captured the beauty of Odessa and its cultural heritage in his works. His art is characterized by depth and emotion, as he adeptly combined elements of modernity with tradition,» commented the museum director.

During the exhibition opening, numerous artists and critics spoke about Harmider's impact on contemporary art.

Over 100 pieces from his 50-year career are showcased in this exhibition.

Featured are etchings from his beloved «Odessa» series: «Odessa in the 19th Century», «Odessa and France», and «Life in Odessa from the Late 19th to Early 20th Century».

Among the unique pieces is a historical map of Odessa created using the etching technique, consisting of nine separate parts. Only up to five prints are known to exist.

The series titled «My Ukraine» impresses with its poetic representation of the beauty of various regions, while «10 Days on a Trimaran» conveys an exhilarating dialogue between humanity and the sea.

Harmider's paintings, while not exhibited in recent years, hold immense artistic value and merit attention.

This year, Gennady Harmider would have celebrated his 80th birthday. He left behind a vast artistic legacy, with works displayed in 27 museums across Ukraine.

The Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art is open daily except Wednesdays, from 12:00 to 17:00.
