Revitalizing Odessa's Architectural Heritage: New Initiatives
The Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, held a meeting regarding the restoration of architectural landmarks affected in the UNESCO zone and engaged with their residents.
Recently, a UNESCO mission visited Odessa to assess the impact of the Russian attacks on World Heritage sites.
Currently, emergency measures are being implemented to restore the integrity of the roofing, except for the most severely damaged parts of the buildings where the upper floors are nearly destroyed.
In these areas, structural damages to the buildings are being examined. More extensive work is required for their remediation, which necessitates approval from state heritage protection authorities.
During the meeting with Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Vasyl Shkurakov, the mayor raised concerns about addressing legislative gaps that hinder residents of architectural landmarks from receiving compensation under the eRecovery program.
