Exhibition on German Heritage in Ukraine
The UNESCO center in Regensburg hosts the exhibition titled "German Heritage in Ukraine".
This exhibition, brought from Odessa, showcases a unique collection of historical materials that narrate the lives of German colonists in the Odessa region since the early 19th century and their influence on the region's development.
The display is divided into three sections: historical, artistic, and contemporary. The historical segment was prepared by renowned Odessa historian Oleksandr Surilov. The artistic section features paintings by Odessa artist Tetyana Romanenko, created in oil and watercolor techniques.
The exhibition also highlights the collaboration between our cities and the support Regensburg has provided to Odessa since the onset of the full-scale invasion.
Organized with the support of the Department of Culture, International Cooperation, and European Integration of Odessa and the Department of Culture and Preservation of Cultural Heritage of Regensburg.
During his working visit to Germany, Odessa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov attended the exhibition opening alongside Regensburg Mayor Gertrud Malz-Schwartzfischer. Historians, scientists, political and cultural figures, as well as Odessa residents living in Germany were also present.
The Odessa Mayor expressed deep gratitude and respect to all for their support and assistance to Odessa.
"Soon, it will be a thousand days of full-scale war, and thus, a thousand days of our heroic defense and the incredible support provided to Ukraine by European countries, including Regensburg to Odessa", - said Hennadiy Trukhanov.
The Mayor emphasized that during the war, Odessa has become a second home for tens of thousands of displaced persons, just as it was when Ukrainians, Germans, Jews, Greeks, Armenians, Poles, and many others found their homes along the shores of the Black Sea. Each contributed to the city's development and culture, creating a unique character that makes Odessa special today.
"Germany significantly influenced the agricultural development of the region, and consequently, the port and other infrastructure. We highly value this contribution and continue to strengthen our relations in numerous areas. Today, we are here to express our gratitude by unveiling interesting, and for some, unknown, pages of our shared history", - noted the Mayor of Odessa.
Today, our relationship with sister city Regensburg remains as strong and unwavering as our faith in victory, love for freedom, and the independence of Ukraine. We believe in a better future and know that together we can overcome any challenges.
