Ukrainian Film Festival in Latvia: New Horizons

18 October 2025

From October 10 to 12, 2025, the fifth anniversary festival of 'Ukrainian Film Days in Latvia' took place in the capital of Latvia. This event marked an important step in cultural diplomacy between Ukraine and Latvia.

The festival was organized with the support of the State Agency of Ukraine for Cinema, the Charity Fund ChF "Doors", the NGO «International Association for the Development and Support of Ukrainian Culture», and the Latvian organization «DijaTi».

This year’s event was particularly memorable as it featured, for the first time, a Round Table discussion on «Prospects for the Development of Ukrainian Cinema and Co-Production with European Filmmakers», bringing together representatives from the cultural and educational sectors of both countries.

The festival continued with screenings of Ukrainian films presented by the filmmakers themselves.

The head of the board of the «Odesa Film Studio» Anna Docheva presented the film «Why I Am Alive» directed by Vilēns Novaks, created at the Odesa Film Studio, which has already become iconic in the modern history of Ukrainian cinema.

During the festival, Walters Kagainis was awarded the «Legends of Odesa Film Studio» award for his significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian cinema and collaboration with the Odesa Film Studio.

Screenings took place at the Ksuns/Kinogalerija cinema and the Ukrainian House in Latvia (Ukrainas māja Latvijā).
