Innovative Thermal Imaging Solutions from a Ukrainian Company
The Ukrainian company 'Oko Camera', specializing in thermal imaging modules for defense systems, unveiled its product line at the Brave1 Components exhibition, including a new range of cameras in the standard thermal imaging range (LWIR).
These cameras operate in passive mode, feature high-sensitivity optics, and are manufactured without Chinese components. Key elements such as sensors and optics are sourced from European manufacturers, while assembly and software development are fully conducted in Ukraine.
'Oko Camera's' technological solutions are integrated into various systems: turrets, bombers, drones, as well as autonomous navigation systems and drone countermeasures. The company also acts as a component partner for other manufacturers, customizing modules according to specific technical requirements, including image processing and detection of moving targets at long distances.
The manufacturer stated that current capacities allow the production of several hundred cameras per month, depending on optics specifications. The company plans to expand production and reach a level of 1000+ cameras per month by 2026.
However, there are certain challenges that hinder scaling, such as production cycles, logistics of components, and tax restrictions.
'There are challenges that make the Ukrainian camera more expensive. For instance, we sell with VAT, while Chinese manufacturers can sell without it,' the company explains.
The price of cameras primarily depends on optics: basic thermal imaging modules start at 2000 euros. For specific tasks, the company also offers custom solutions - both simplified and highly sensitive, depending on the manufacturer's needs.
'Oko Camera' is a Ukrainian developer of thermal cameras and their software, focusing on high-sensitivity optics and avoiding Chinese components while creating tailored modules for defense systems.
