Memory Alley in Odesa: Honoring Heroes

29 August 2024

On the Day of Remembrance for Defenders of Ukraine, a new Memory Alley was ceremoniously opened in Odesa to honor fallen heroes.

Hundreds of people, including families of the fallen, local authorities, military personnel, and veterans gathered to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

Ruslan Prykhodko, Deputy Minister for Veteran Affairs, expressed gratitude to everyone involved in creating the Memory Alley:

“This place is not only for remembrance but also for shaping our national identity.”

The Alley currently features over 200 names, but sadly, the number of fallen heroes is much greater.

Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov noted that the Alley will continue to be updated with the names of defenders who died since 2014.

Work is also underway to create a Memorial at one of the city’s cemeteries in collaboration with the families of the fallen.

Additionally, improvements are ongoing at the Glory Square and the Memorial to Fighters for Ukraine.

“For me, these are not just projects; they are symbols of our memory and gratitude, places where we can gather and support each other on days of remembrance,” emphasized Hennadiy Trukhanov.

Together, we keep the memory of those who died alive and continue their mission to build a better future for all of us.
