Completion of Repatriation Efforts: A New Chapter for Ukraine
The final stage of repatriation efforts, as per the agreements made in Istanbul, has successfully concluded in Ukraine. Today, an additional 1245 bodies have been returned, which, according to Russian sources, belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel. Thus, Ukraine has received a total of 6057 bodies under these agreements.
Law enforcement officials, along with experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will conduct all necessary examinations and identifications of the repatriated remains.
These repatriation efforts were made possible through the collaborative work of the Coordination Staff on the treatment of prisoners of war, the Joint Center at the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and various other security and defense sector entities.
We express our gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for their assistance.
A special thank you goes to the personnel of the Central Administration of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Joint Center, who are responsible for transporting the repatriated individuals to designated specialized institutions, as well as organizing the transfer of the deceased to law enforcement and forensic experts.
