Regional Phase of School Leagues: New Triumphs and Emotions
The regional phase of the project «Side by Side. Nationwide School Leagues» has kicked off in Odesa. This event has become a true celebration of sports for students, initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky under the slogan «Together We Will Win!».
This year, various sports will be contested, and we have a record number of participants – nearly 20,000 players. A total of 2,440 teams from 541 schools in Odesa have registered!
Today, eight strong teams in futsal (boys) competed for a single spot in the national finals across two age categories (grades 5-9 and 9-11):
- Odesa Secondary School No. 35,
- Velykomykhailivsky Lyceum,
- Pavlivsky ZZSО,
- Sarat Lyceum,
- Nerubaysky Lyceum No. 1,
- Zatyshansky ZZSО,
- Kamchitsky Lyceum,
- First Lyceum of Voznesensk.
During the opening ceremony, Anton Shalyhaylo, Deputy Head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, addressed the young athletes and their coaches.
One of the best scorers in the history of Ukrainian football and now a sports veteran and project ambassador, Oleksandr Kosyryn, known for scoring the fastest goal in the history of the Ukrainian Premier League, also came to support the teams.
From the very first minutes of the competition, the region's active and friendly sports mascot – the Friendly Dolphin – cheered the participants on during tense matches.
In the fierce battles of the grades 5-9 category, the team from Pavlivsky Lyceum in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district emerged victorious, defeating all their opponents.
Among the boys in grades 9-11, the strongest proved to be the students of Kamchitsky Lyceum from the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district.
