Sports Competitions in Odessa: New Opportunities for Students

The city of Odessa recently hosted the II (territorial) stage of sports competitions under the project of physical education and wellness activities «Shoulder to Shoulder National School Leagues» for students of general secondary education in the academic year 2024/2025.

School teams competed for supremacy in volleyball and rugby-5.

In the volleyball competitions for girls in grades 5-9, the teams from Odessa Lyceums No. 7, 56, 86, and Odessa Gymnasium No. 25 advanced to the city’s III stage, while among girls in grades 9-11 were the teams from Odessa Lyceums No. 13, 51, 62, and Odessa Specialized School No. 32.

The victory in the II stage of volleyball competitions among boys in grades 5-9 was claimed by the teams from Odessa Lyceums No. 5, 89, and Odessa Gymnasium No. 77, while among boys in grades 9-11, the winners were Odessa Lyceums No. 24, 84, «Lanzheronivsky», and Odessa Specialized School No. 32.

The rugby-5 competitions for students were held in the city’s sports halls for the first time. This exciting game fosters speed, coordination, team spirit, and strategic thinking, allowing teams to create unique tactical situations requiring excellent communication and interaction among players.

The teams from Odessa Lyceums No. 28, 40, and 69 triumphed in the II stage of rugby-5 competitions.

All participants demonstrated a high level of preparation, skill, and unwavering determination to win. New challenges lie ahead, and teams are diligently preparing for future competitions.

The project «Shoulder to Shoulder National School Leagues» represents the largest student competitions in the country among students of general secondary education for the academic year 2024/2025, taking place under the slogan «Together We Will Win». The aim is to increase the number of students regularly engaging in sports and leading a healthy lifestyle.
