Odesa Karate Athletes Shine at European Championship

Karate athletes from Odesa secured five medals at the European Championship held from February 6-8 in Limassol (Cyprus).

About 1200 competitors from 40 European countries participated in the event.

The students from Odesa's sports schools and athletes from the All-Ukrainian Karate Federation achieved remarkable results.

Maxim Vechkanov (Sports School No. 15) became the European champion, earning his third medal at youth European championships.

Hanna Maistrenko (Sports School No. 15) earned a silver medal.

Silver medals were also won by Vladislav Rudenko (Sports School No. 16), Sergey Stankov (SK 'Legion'), and Ulyana Baranova (SK 'Okinawa'). Sergey previously won gold among cadets in 2024, while Ulyana and Vladislav took bronze among juniors.

Following the championship, Maxim Vechkanov and Ulyana Baranova headed to Fujairah (UAE) to participate in the world karate league.

The athletes were trained by Vladimir Zaretsky, Alexey Konovalov, and instructors: Vladimir Golovesko, Dmitry Negaturov, Denis Sustretov, Orkhan Yusifov, and Ruslan Khomutenko.
