Triathlon Championship in Ukraine: Veterans Compete
On July 13, Odesa hosted the Ukrainian triathlon (aquathlon) championship for veteran athletes along the Black Sea coast.
The event attracted 283 participants from different cities including Odesa, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Bila Tserkva, Lviv, Donetsk region, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Kryvyi Rih, Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv, and many other Ukrainian cities.
The swimming segment (1 km, 2 km, 4 km) took place in the coastal area, starting from the “Chaika” beach to the yacht club (Novoberhova St.) and back. The running segment (5 km, 10 km, 20 km) followed the Health Trail from “Chaika” beach to “Zoloty Bereh” beach and back.
In the overall standings for the absolute distance, Andriy Kushnerov (Kyiv) claimed victory with a time of 46:13, followed by Serhii Zviahin (Kyiv) at 53:18, and Odesa’s Petro Vasyliev finishing third at 58:09.
In the “long” aquathlon (2+10 km), Odesa’s Vadim Maslenikov took first place with a time of 1:13:01, silver went to Kyiv’s Serhii Chernyshov at 1:14:53, and bronze was also claimed by Kyiv’s Serhii Yanhycher at 1:16:35.
In the “Standard” aquathlon (1+5 km), Andrii Pechenyi from Kyiv celebrated victory with a time of 33:28, while fellow Kyivite Semen Tereshchenko secured second at 34:07, and Odesa’s Denys Poliakov took the bronze at 35:08.
Among women in this distance, all podium spots were taken by Kyiv athletes. The champion was Anastasia Ihnatkina, followed by Nadiia Somina in second place and Iryna Krotova in third.
The competition was organized by the Odesa Regional Triathlon Federation with the support of the Odesa City Council.
