Alina Komashchuk Wins Silver at European Fencing Championships
Olympic champion Alina Komashchuk from Odesa has secured her first individual medal at the European Fencing Championships, claiming silver at the continental event in Genoa.
This was reported by the Fencing Federation of Ukraine.
On June 15, Alina Komashchuk won a silver medal at the European Fencing Championships held in Genoa, Italy.
In the final match among sabre fencers, Komashchuk lost to the current European champion from the French team, Sara Nutch, with a score of 6:15.
On her way to the decisive bout, the Ukrainian showed remarkable form: first, she confidently defeated Italian fencer Mariella Viale, a medalist at junior world and European championships, and in the semifinals, she overcame strong Polish sabre fencer Sylwia Matuszczak.
This silver medal is historic for Komashchuk, as she had previously reached the podium at European championships as part of a team but had never won an individual medal before.
