Ukrainian Fencer's Triumph at the Grand Prix in Shanghai
Ukrainian fencer Daria Mironyuk has advanced to the main draw of the Grand Prix taking place in Shanghai.
In the 1/64 finals, the epeeist defeated a competitor from Hong Kong with a score of 12:7. Overall, five Ukrainian athletes competed at this stage, but four of them faced elimination.
Alina Polozniuk lost to Camilla Mancini (8:15), Kim Ho Yong proved stronger than Kristina Petrova (10:15), Kateryna Budenko was decisively beaten by Maria Teresa Diaz (5:15), and Olga Sopyt was eliminated by Vladislava Penyushkina in the 1/128 finals.
The main event will take place on Sunday, May 18 at 05:00 Kyiv time.
It is worth mentioning that at the end of 2024, Mironyuk won her first senior-level medal, taking silver at the European Championship in Basel as part of the Ukrainian national team.
Previously, it was reported that the international fencing federation allowed "neutral" Russians and Belarusians to participate in team competitions.
