The «Current Challenges in the Odessa Education System» forum gathered educators, government representatives, and administrative officials from the city.
Key issues requiring attention to improve the quality of educational services were discussed.
Due to the war, the number of students in Odessa's schools has decreased, yet the burden on educators remains high and salaries are low. Currently, there are 474 vacant positions in educational institutions (down from over 600). There is a significant need for teachers in natural sciences.
Additional unpaid responsibilities negatively impact the prestige of the profession, particularly the obligation to organize "Points of Resilience."
The introduction of a municipal allowance of 3000 hryvnias has helped attract young specialists, but the demand for such professionals persists.
The average age of teachers in Odessa is 46 years. Additionally, the quality of training for future educators is challenged by rapidly changing curriculum requirements.
During the forum, Mayor Gennady Trukhanov instructed the development of a system of municipal allowances for educational staff.
Collaboration with the Institute of Physics at Odessa National University was also discussed to enhance the teaching of natural sciences.
«Our priorities are clear today: army – education – healthcare,» – concluded Mayor Trukhanov.
