Panel Discussion on Babyn Yar at Odesa Museum

At the Odesa Museum of Genocide «Territory of Memory», with support from the Odesa Center for Professional Development of Educators, a panel discussion titled «Babyn Yar – A Tragedy of World War II» was held.

The event targeted social studies teachers in Odesa and focused on critical issues surrounding the teaching of Holocaust and genocide themes, as well as preserving historical memory in our city.

The panel discussion commenced with a video address from the director of the National Historical and Cultural Preserve «Babyn Yar», Roza Tapanova, emphasizing the importance of studying and understanding the tragedy of Babyn Yar for modern Ukraine and the world.

Pavlo Kozlenko, a candidate of philosophical sciences and head of the NGO «Odesa Center for Holocaust Studies», addressed the participants, highlighting the crucial role of social studies teachers in shaping the historical consciousness of youth and combating intolerance.

The discussion focused on practical aspects of working with sensitive historical topics in student environments. Participants were introduced to the successful experiences of their Odesa colleagues in implementing museum pedagogy.

The best practices for working with children regarding the memory of World War II and Holocaust victims were presented by educators from Odesa Lyceums No. 56, 62, and the Law Lyceum.

Participants actively exchanged experiences, discussing challenges faced in their work, and received valuable practical advice on integrating Holocaust and genocide topics into the educational process during the current state of martial law.
