Collaboration Between Universities and Military: New Initiatives

09 July 2025

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is set to introduce a partnership between military brigades and higher education institutions. This initiative arises within the framework of the course "Fundamentals of National Resistance".

This course will encompass both theoretical and practical components, including direct interaction between the military and universities.

This was reported by Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi during an interview on Radio Khartiya.

According to him, this initiative aims to help young people enhance their skills and knowledge about national resistance, thereby shaping their worldview.

New legislation provides for basic military training in universities starting September 1, which differs from standard military training.

"When an individual is mobilized into the army, they will undergo comprehensive preparation right before their integration into military units", – said the minister.

The plan includes active collaboration between military units stationed in the regions where universities are located, as well as interregional cooperation.

"Not every brigade has the necessary cultural level to work with universities under our requirements. This also involves ideology, value formation, and ensuring we all work towards the same goals", – he added.

Additionally, utilizing the logistical base of military units, including training grounds, weaponry, and instructors with combat experience, is crucial.

In the minister's view, such collaboration will establish a tradition where military units take care of one or several universities, fostering connections and involving youth in significant events.

"The military honors their fallen and treats their wounded differently, which is important for engaging students in these processes", – emphasized Lisovyi.

This idea was inspired by the practice of some universities that already care for military brigades where their graduates serve.
