Security Discussions in the Black Sea: New Developments

15 April 2025

Turkey is serving as a crucial platform for significant negotiations concerning security in the Black Sea region. These discussions are taking place at the military level with key players such as the United Kingdom and France involved.

Source: President Volodymyr Zelensky shared insights during a press conference in Odesa on April 15 following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as reported by "European Truth"

Details: Zelensky indicated that important talks regarding Black Sea security are underway in Turkey, primarily focusing on the "coalition of the willing".

"We have been discussing these matters with our Turkish counterparts over the past two days. They invited us, and representatives from European nations, specifically the UK and France, will be present, along with Ukraine and Turkey as the host country", – he added.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense previously announced that a meeting would take place on April 15-16 to address security issues in the Black Sea in light of a potential ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.

While earlier Turkish media suggested that Russian representatives would attend, Ankara has denied this.

It’s worth noting that during negotiations in Saudi Arabia from March 23-25, the US, Russia, and Ukraine agreed to discuss securing navigation in the Black Sea.

However, following this, Russia issued a list of demands that included the easing of various sanctions against the agricultural sector. The US stated that they would examine these demands, while Europe dismissed the idea of easing sanctions.
