He emphasized NATO's steadfast support and promised to continue assisting Ukraine.
"The Ukrainian people have endured so much – not just the Russian attack on Sumy on Palm Sunday. NATO's support is unwavering. We will continue to help Ukraine defend itself today and deter future aggression, working towards a just and lasting peace," Rutte wrote.
Meanwhile, Zelensky mentioned on X that he and Rutte visited a hospital where Ukrainian defenders are recovering from injuries. He also shared a video from the visit.
"I spoke with the soldiers. I awarded the defenders with state honors. Thank you to the guys for their strength, endurance, and protection of our people," he noted.
On April 4, after the conclusion of the Alliance's ministerial meeting, Rutte stated that the Alliance's decision regarding Ukraine's NATO membership remains unchanged, despite all political statements.
On the same day, Kremlin negotiator Kirill Dmitriev, who was in Washington, stated that the Trump administration understands President Vladimir Putin's position on Ukraine's NATO membership being impossible.
