Strengthening Ties Between Odesa and Mainz

The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, held an online meeting with the Mayor of Mainz, Nino Haaze. 

During the meeting, they discussed the process of signing a partnership agreement between the two cities. 

This initiative has already received support from the legislative bodies of both Odesa and Mainz. 

Additionally, the participants talked about potential areas of collaboration, particularly in culture, social development, bioenergy, and the IT sector. 

The Mayor of Odesa emphasized the historical contribution of Germans to the rapid development of Odesa in the early 19th century and expressed hope that modern counterparts could replicate this success. 

«Despite the challenging times, we are moving forward by uniting and enhancing our cooperation,» — noted the Mayor of Odesa. 

Since 2022, Mainz has been welcoming refugees from Ukraine, creating conditions for their economic, social, and cultural engagement. 

Hennadiy Trukhanov expressed gratitude to the German people for their incredible support and assistance, and informed his colleague about the recent hostile attacks on Odesa. 

«The most terrifying aspect of this war is its aim to destroy the civilian population, culture, and authenticity of Ukraine. We are committed to providing assistance now and focusing on long-term cooperation,» said the Mayor of Mainz. 

Mr. Nino Haaze noted that Mainz is the most dynamic city in Germany and sees a similar potential in Odesa. He also expressed confidence that the partnership agreement between the cities would foster development for both regions.
