Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán claims that the results of the so-called "referendum" on Ukraine's EU membership, initiated by his government, have effectively halted Ukraine's accession.

Orbán stated that Hungary "understands the Ukrainians and recognizes their heroic struggle".
"We also see that they need assistance, but we want to help in a way that does not jeopardize our own existence. Ukraine's EU membership would mean our own destruction. We would be immediately drawn into a war with Russia, bringing it onto EU soil, including Hungary," – the Hungarian Prime Minister asserted.
"Yesterday, thanks to over two million votes on Voks2025, we halted Ukraine's entry into the European Union," – he added.
Orbán indicated that Ukraine remains an "undefined entity" not due to its own fault.
"We do not even know what Ukraine is today, where its borders lie. This danger existed in other former Soviet bloc countries as well. That is why they were initially accepted into NATO, which could guarantee those borders, and only later did the EU accept other relevant countries," – Orbán continued, emphasizing that accepting Ukraine into NATO would immediately lead to war.
