University Initiative for Blood Donation

To celebrate the 160th anniversary of Odessa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov, the administration and students have launched the initiative «Become a Donor! Save a Life!».

This event is part of the university's project «HEALTH, MOVEMENT, EDUCATION»!

«The main goal of the event is to gather 160 donors to support military personnel and anyone in need of assistance», said Vadim Penov, the initiative's initiator and associate professor of physiology.

Blood collection will take place on the university premises with the participation of medical staff from the Odessa Regional Blood Transfusion Station.

The campaign began at the university's branch and will continue next week in the library and other buildings of the institution.

Participants, including students and faculty, eagerly joined in donating blood. Over the first two days of the campaign, more than 70 people donated. Each donor received a gift — a sticker featuring Sonya the cat, the project's mascot.

As part of the «Donor Odessa» project, informative discussions regarding blood donation were held with students from the Professional College and members of the Biological Faculty's Academic Council.

Promotion activities for blood donation at Mechnikov University were conducted as part of the city charitable project «Weeks of Good Deeds».

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the «Donor Odessa» project has been facilitating blood donation for medical institutions, achieving over 12,000 blood donations. A large-scale information campaign to promote blood donation is supported by the Odessa City Council's Department of Information through the telegram channel «Odessa.Official» and the mobile app MISTO.
